Down to Earth: The event that we will always hold in our memories

Posted by Team Impact on September 17th, 2008

Days seem to pass by so easily. One by one, we start to lose count of the number of days that have gone past by us.

However, today, Team Impact had spent a day that it will never forget. It was its special event: Down to Earth, of the envirorelay series. Weeks of effort was put into preparing for this event. Literally, we sweated blood and tears to develop the concept of our event. Every meticulous detail was looked at and examined. We wanted to have a special event, one that will last in the hearts of those who walked by, one that could reach out to those who experienced it. We wanted to spread the message of climate change stronger than ever.

The dawn started off with rather heavy rain. However, the very elements of weather, which we feared would affect us so badly proved to be a mere scare. We all had spent the past few days preparing for the logistics of the event, and were worried of the prospect that the weather might affect our event.

Preparing the exhibitWe reached our location, the Speaker’s Corner around 9.00 a.m. It was quiet and peaceful, and we set to work immediately. Our exhibition was not a typical panel exhibition, but instead, a unique exhibition set on the floor, and in the shape of a globe. It was pieced together by many A4 size posters. The intention was to show that our Earth was in pain, was being torn apart by us and could no longer take the suffering we have rendered it to.

While we had anticipated the crowd to be little, it was still heartening to know that of the little crowd that walked by us, most of them expressed great interest in our project. One of them, a teenager just like us, felt that our event was enlightening and wanted to be more involved.

We began our programme around 11.00 a.m. in the morning. It started out with a speech by our marketing and public relations officer, Elson Ee. Then we went on to have various dialogue sessions before concluding our event by noon.

An interested participantGeneral feedback about our event was positive. No doubt, our special event may have helped in enlightening a few minds. However, the people whom it has benefited most had to us, the organizers, for we would never have learned so much without the intense amount of effort we put into preparing for the event.

As said again, this event would last in our hearts forever, ala everlasting memories.

éternel mémoire
